Jim and Linda RosselotJim grew up on the farm. At the time, he really hated the hoeing and the picking. After earning a degree in English and pursuing several several other opportunities, he ventured back to the farm in the early 80's. It wasn't until 1989 that he began selling produce off of the farm. Jim thoroughly enjoys his work today for a number of reasons. He likes working near and with his family (his dad, wife, and kids) and has gotten to know them all so well because of this. His work also helps him to fulfill his passion of providing people with clean food. His favorite type of work on the farm is working with the horses to plow fields, mow hay, and cultivate corn. If he had more time to dedicate to the farm, he would spend it with the horses. Jim's favorite food is the sweet corn. He eats it right in the field - he says that's the only way to know if it is ready. He hasn't eaten cooked corn in years! Linda has been with Gravel Knolls Farm since its beginnings. She is the driving force behind the success of Gravel Knolls CSA. Linda thoroughly enjoys working the farm and does not consider this a job in the traditional sense. One of the best perks of her job is not having to deal with traffic. In the mornings, she simply walks from her home to the fields and starts digging in the dirt! She also enjoys involving her three children with the farm. Her favorite vegetables are the greens, in particular she likes Swiss chard and spinach. Jenny WillisJenny has been gardening organically in Cincinnati for 12 years, growing herbs, small fruits, vegetables and wildlife habitat. She likes working at the farm because it's satisfying to grow healthy food for people. Some days it's hard work, especially when it gets hot, but when she is done for the day she feels as if she has accomplished something and been useful. Her favorite vegetable is also the Swiss chard, which she likes to cook with garlic. But her husband and their two boys really enjoy the beets. Babe and EsterBabe and Ester are the Percheron work horses that keep our farm running. Percheron draft horses were used on America's farms long before motorized trucks and tractors were invented. They are known for their strength as well as their grace. Babe (age 14) and Ester (age 15) are half-sisters. They have been a part of Gravel Knolls since they were 3 and 4 years old. Babe is the protective one. She watches over Ester when strangers or dogs are in the fields. Ester is not particularly a people-person, but she does the best she can. They are both very sweet horses and enjoy eating their 60-acres of pasture.
