Important Questions to Ask Yourself Before Joining

bulletDo I cook several meals at home during the week?
bulletAm I enthusiastic about occasionally trying something unusual from the garden?
bulletWill I be available to pick up my share most of the summer?  You can also have a friend or neighbor use your share when you are not able to.
bulletAm I willing to take the risks with the farmer that sometimes come when working with Mother Nature (lower production due to insects or weather conditions)?

Risks Involved

If you want to be a part of the Gravel Knolls CSA, please understand there are some risks involved.  Some crops do not reach harvest stage due to negative conditions.  Farming is unpredictable and the challenges are different every year.  Fortunately, most of the vegetables do just fine.

Our Guarantee

We will always have something fresh and organic from our gardens to supply your weekly share.  The amount will vary from week to week.  Some weeks you will have more to take home than others, depending on the harvest.

Cost

The $375.00 full-share (or $200 half-share) fee must be submitted with the membership form and mailed to the address below.  This is on a first come basis and memberships usually fill up quickly.

As a member of the CSA, you will also be able to purchase brown eggs on the day of your pickup for the discounted price of $1.50/dozen.  Our chickens are free range.  You may stop by The Feed Barn on non-pickup days to purchase additional eggs.  Bring your CSA card for the discount.

As a member of the CSA, you will also be given the opportunity to pre-order free range chickens several times throughout the season.  Prices will be posted.

What You Will Receive

The shareholder is entitled to approximately 25 weeks of Gravel Knolls organic produce.  The produce will be presented "market style".  We will provide you with a canvas tote bag to use specifically for picking up your share on one of two regularly scheduled days during the week.  The tote size is equivalent to a grocery bag (with dimensions of 17"x13"x4").

In May you could expect to choose from 3 to 4 different lettuces, greens, onions, cabbage, broccoli, sweet peas, radishes, and beets.   In July your selections may be Swiss Chard, beets, different lettuces, onions, garlic, cucumbers, green beans, herbs, summer squash, tomatoes, sweet corn, and eggplant.  Those are just an example of what we hope to have ready to harvest during those months.  We plant over 25 different vegetables, with a multiple of varieties, on the farm so the harvest is usually different every few weeks, lending to a nice variety for you through out the season.

Pickup

You will pick up your produce inside the main barn on the farm property (9424 Cincinnati-Dayton Road).  You can choose from one of two pickup days when you register:

bulletMonday between 3pm and 7pm
bulletThursday between 3pm and 7pm

You will need to bring your tote bag with you each time and fill it from the selections harvested for that week.
